Cyriel Dessers was spotted in Rangers’ training session ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League qualifying second-leg tie against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
The Nigerian forward had sustained a knee injury in the second half of Rangers’ third-round clash with Viktoria Plzen, sparking fears of a lengthy absence.
However, head coach Martin Russell confirmed two weeks ago that the injury was not as serious as initially feared.
Dessers has missed Rangers’ last three fixtures, including the first leg against Club Brugge, where the Scottish side suffered a 3-1 defeat at Ibrox Stadium.
Rangers’ start to the 2025/26 season has been nothing short of abysmal.
Placed seventh out of twelve teams, Martin Russell’s side have failed to win any of their first three league games, earning just three points out of a possible nine after drawing with Motherwell, Dundee FC, and St Mirren.
Dessers’ lack of full fitness has also played a role in the team’s struggles.
The striker featured for just 20 minutes in the season opener against Motherwell and was absent from the squad in the third league game against St Mirren.
So far, the 30-year-old has played a key role in Rangers’ qualification push, contributing one goal and one assist.
His decisive performance against Viktoria Plzen in the first leg proved vital, as Rangers lost the return leg 2-1 but advanced 4-2 on aggregate.
With his return to training confirmed, Dessers is expected to lead the line tomorrow as Rangers seek a turnaround against the Belgian side in their bid to secure a place in the 2025/26 Champions League group stage.
